Game Analysis: vs. Cape Coral Christian

We got our first experience of playing Middle School/JV and Varsity games on Friday, Dec. 12th. It was a good inaugural game for several of our middle school players. Jonathan, Matthew, Zachary, David, and Brandon all scored their first points in a game situation. I was proud. We were able to work out some of the jitters of a first game situation. We were faced with some tough competition, and learned that we have a lot to learn about fundamentals.

The final score of the MS/JV game was CC Christian 33 LCHS 23
Our scorers were: Nick Higham 12
Zachary Blikstad 3
David Blikstad 2
Brandon Monahan 2
Matthew Peterson 2
Jonathan Rivera 2

At the Varsity game, we remember last year when they beat us 67-13. That wasn't pretty, but we weren't ready, nor were we very experienced. This year (Friday), they beat us again, but the score was 38 - 17. Now, that may sound bad, but my take on it is that they played us hard the whole game, and we fought with them all the way. A few breakaways in the second half that got away, and we would have been breathing down their necks. Still, this game revealed much that we, too, have to work on. We play them again on January 9th (in four weeks). We'll see how much we can improve during that time.

Two notes of interest: 1) I thought it was very appropriate for three of our Seniors to score the first points of the game. Joel B. made a free throw, Josh B. made the first basket, and Joel A. made the second basket. 2) The difference in free throws in this game was significant. They made nine of 25, while we made three of nine. Maybe the next game we'll get to the free throw line more.

Our scorers for this game were: Joel Blikstad 9
Billy Van Helden 4
Josh Byerly 2
Joel Ascol 2
